what is engineering
Engineering is one of the most exciting and diverse areas to work in. Engineers find new ways of doing things, develop creative solutions to modern problems and undertake diverse tasks in areas such as research, design and manufacturing.
Unemployment amongst professional engineers is lower than almost any other profession, with high demand for good engineers in almost every country, developing or otherwise. Starting salaries are high, ranging from £18,000 to £29,000, with highly experienced engineers earning in excess of £65,000 (data from May 2010).
Depending on your interests, you could be working with the very latest technology in areas such as robotics, space travel and green technology.

what do i need to become an engineer?
Studying science, maths, design and technology or ICT at school will get you off to a good start. They all provide you with some of the essential skills engineers use. If you’re a creative problem solver who enjoys hands-on practical work, the challenges can be varied and your options unlimited.
Some of the world’s most highly-regarded engineers are women, such as Marie Curie, who helped develop modern understanding of radioactivity (now used to fight cancer).
So don’t let men have all the fun - an exciting career in engineering is available for women who can rise to the challenge.
