The Appointment

Vision Apprentices are working in partnership with 2 Sisters Food Group to recruit a Skilled Operator apprentice to work in their busy food production team in Heanor. The apprentice will be working alongside a skilled team in a company with a proven track record and training and developing staff.

The Post

Apprentices will work towards an exciting new apprenticeship standard in Food and drink process operative, learning a mixture of industry recognised qualifications and Matthew Walkers unique in-house training program.

Main Responsibilities and Duties

  • assembling goods on a production line, like fitting circuit boards into computers
  • reporting equipment faults to maintenance staff
  • finishing products, for example applying protective coatings
  • monitoring the production process and carrying out basic testing and quality checks
  • storing goods and raw materials in the factory or warehouse
  • using lifting equipment and forklift trucks
  • packing goods ready for shipment
  • cleaning and maintaining work areas and machinery

  • Measuring, grading and feeding batches of raw material to convert into a work in progress or a finished product by following a standard procedure for production and using production machinery.
  • Operate production line equipment.
  • Engaging in front line problem solving on the process
  • Identify and report equipment faults to maintenance staff and production issues
  • Inspect material for acceptance and to ensure it's of good quality
  • Visually check materials for damage, defect or foreign material
  • Check material batch numbers and shelf-life
  • Verify the quantity of material and the production line availability
  • Verify actual availability of material (ingredients, packaging & consumables) and availability or a process line. This needs to be checked prior to production, prior to process start-up, at changeovers or clean outs.
  • Perform a set up and change over.
  • Setup the line / area for production ensuring all the following are available; safety controls, hygiene standards, machines, parts, tools & labour and conduct product
  • Process changeovers as specified in the procedure
  • Record and collect data
  • Release the product to the next process
  • Complete daily operations checks to process equipment as detailed in the procedures.
  • Perform quality inspections and record the results

Applicants will be required to attend an Assessment Centre with Vision Apprentices as part of the screening process.
