Trackwork is a Network Rail approved supplier and a major contributor in the specialist railway engineering sector. With over 30 years of experience, 350 employees and a significant presence in the industry, Trackwork wanted to expand their training provision to ensure that new track workers had the competence, occupational skills and experience to maintain and develop their business.

In his search for a training provider to work in partnership with, Trackwork Training Manager, John Belton, said:

We chose to work with West Nottinghamshire College because it offered the best partnership deal – and we haven’t looked back. We get great expertise from the College, as well as sound advice about obtaining LSC funding for our training programmes. Above all, we’re working with people we can trust.”

At our Construction and Logistics Skills Academy, we have created a realistic working environment of the rail infrastructure, offering employees the chance to gain real experience working on tracks. This approach raises the knowledge and skill levels of workers within the railway industry while providing them with qualifications and apprenticeships that confirm their competency levels.

The results of our partnership speak for themselves. Since working with the College, Trackwork’s success rates over the past three-four years in relation to retention, achievement and qualifications achieved, are above average levels of 80-90%. The ‘Trackwork model’ is even quoted by the Government as an exemplar of best practice and an example of how training providers and organisations should work together to raise skill levels and support the development needs of employees.

Trackwork and West Nottinghamshire College are now moving forward together, working in conjunction to access funding support and develop business opportunities that benefit both organisations. As a successful and experienced partnership, we can assess and prepare for the educational and business needs of the future, pre-empting any economic or technological challenges that impacts the industry.
